We are committed to developing a relationship with you so you may better understand your options and freely choose. We will strive to better understand your needs and in some way help you improve your self-esteem and ultimately the quality of your life. We combine a background of proper occlusion with esthetic smile design to bring a patient to the esthetics they desire, as well as the functional requirements to help protect their investment. Preventive Services & Periodontal TherapyWe deliver procedures based on need in a caring, quality atmosphere. For each patient, we provide a complete comprehensive exam, which takes about an hour and a half. This includes a soft tissue exam, a TMJ screening, an oral cancer screening, digital x-rays, intra and extra oral photographs, diagnodent (laser) decay detection, complete charting and a periodontal probing of each tooth. At Wehrkamp Dental, one of our primary goals is to establish long term relationships with our patients. It is important that each patient know not only what problems exist, but what options are available as solutions. And even more important is having each patient know what it will take to help prevent problems from reoccuring. Our ultimate goal is to show people how to get their mouth healthy and keep it that way ... for life We establish hygiene appointments based on the patient's individual needs. Everyone benefits from preventive measures, but some need more help than others.
Cosmetic & Restorative ServicesUp to 40 percent of the population can benefit from a smile enhancement. We work with master ceramicists who understand function and form as well as we do. We believe this is one distinction that measureably sets us apart from other dental practices. Great care is taken to design a smile for each patient. After we understand your needs and goals, we consider the shape of your face, color of your eyes, and the shape and contour of your lips. We evaluate factors like the symmetry of your eyes and nose to the other dimensions. Once you have your new smile, your confidence soars.
OrthodonticsOur provision of orthodontic treatment makes us a very unique general dental practice. We provide orthodontic treatment for many patients. Our philosophy is to begin treatment for children between 9 1/2 to 10 1/2 years, because this is an ideal age to guide teeth into their proper position. Research has shown a more normal arch form will develop if teeth are positioned properly at an early age. For years, it used to be a wait-and-see approach until all the permanent teeth were in. The problem with this approach is skeletal growth is often complete leaving a deficient amount of arch space. Teeth are crooked and crowded because patients lack adequate arch length and/or width to accommodate the teeth. Our approach for children is to eliminate crowding early, before all the permanent teeth are in. We place the first molars in a proper position, the anterior teeth in their proper relationship, and allow the maxilla and mandible to mold around them. Then the patient has adequate space for all the teeth, and this lessens the chance for relapse. Adult orthodontics is treated differently because all permanent teeth are in and we no longer have skeletal growth to work with. Some mildly crowded cases can be treated either traditionally or with Invisalign. Moderate crowding may involve "slenderizing" an few teeth slightly which reduces the tooth mass we are trying to align in a fixed arch size. Advanced crowding may require extraction of teeth to allow for adequate space to align teeth. Extensive crowding may require referal to an orthodontist and/or an oral surgeon should the case require orthodontics and orthognathic surgery. Orthodontics is usually a committment of 12-24 months in treatment. Patients not willing to commit to this length of time may want to pursue alternative restorative treatment such as veneers. Ask your dentist what your options are to a more functional, esthetic smile. Technology & ComfortTechnological advancements in dentistry have made the field much more predictable and comfortable. There is nothing like seeing for yourself, at 35-times magnification, what an oral camera can show. Patients see inside their mouths and immediately understand what we are trying to explain to them. This motivates patients to take the initiative to help themselves, and better understand what is going on inside their mouths.
